PFAS compliance templates for 2024 MCLs

Has anyone finalized a sampling and notification SOP that aligns with EPA’s 2024 PFAS MCLs and your state primacy requirements? We’re planning quarterly sampling at 12 EPs (>3 MGD surface system) with 7-day exceedance notice, and I’m happy to share our draft checklist, but I’d like to compare required elements (siting plan, Method 537.1/533 selection, public notice language) before we lock policy. Looking for a clean, regulator-ready template we can adopt across districts.

public notice language — We got our state to pre-approve a 140-word PN shell that drops in analyte(s), selected method (537.1/533), LOQs, and the 7-day clock, so comms can go same day without legal review; want a redacted copy?

Short answer from my side: I’m seeing the same pattern — one concrete thing that helped was writing down the exact handoff and timebox it to 15–20 min. Does that match what you’re running into?

Agree with @sking on PN pre-approval; my one tip is to add a one-page trigger table in the SOP that maps each EP to a primary/backup site and locks 537.1 vs 533, and when the lab EDD hits LIMS above an MCL it auto-starts the 7-day timer and emails comms. Small caveat: it only worked after we standardized LOQs with the lab — are you using one lab or two?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌

On our >3 MGD surface system, we added a one-page Hazard Index calculator to the SOP that pulls the lab EDD, locks ‘537.1/533’ per EP, and auto-drafts PN text so we never miss the ‘7-day’ clock across 12 EPs. Small gotcha: our primacy required us to document ND handling (we use LOQ/2), so confirm yours. Are you calculating HI or just PFOA/PFOS MCLs for notice triggers?
